Athletics: Marine Corps Marathon Offers Discounted Early Registration To Active Duty and Reserve Service Members

Special Online Registration Opens on March 4 at www.marinemarathon.com.

QUANTICO, VA (March 3, 2010) - Special early discounted registration for the 35th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) will begin on March 4 for all active duty and Reserve service members. Registration opens to the general public on April 7 for the October 31 event held in Arlington, VA, and the nation's capital.

Military personnel from all branches of the armed forces will receive a 15 percent discount applied to the $90 entry fee. Military members can register online at www.marinemarathon.com for just $76.50 beginning at noon Eastern Time on March 4. Presented in partnership with MCM sponsor GEICO, the military discount offer concludes on April 6. The 15 percent military discount offered for this year's race is in the spirit of MCM sponsor GEICO's familiar on-going campaign of offering 15 percent savings.

"This special early registration offer for the men and women in uniform is really a show of appreciation for their service and sacrifice for our country," says Rick Nealis, MCM Race Director.

More than 6,000 active duty and Reservists registered for the 2009 MCM.

In addition to the registration discount, active duty and Reserve runners also can take advantage of a 15 percent discount to the MCM's online training program. Military runners will pay $34.95 for the 18-week training program that offers daily emails and online training tools including a personal calendar, workout log, calculators, route mapping and discussion boards.

Voted the best marathon for families, the Marine Corps Marathon honors the dedication, sportsmanship and patriotism of its participants. Runners from all walks of life participate in the largest marathon not to offer prize money, earning the nickname as "The People's Marathon." The MCM is the fourth largest marathon in the United States and eighth largest in the world. The 35th anniversary Marine Corps Marathon will be held on October 31 in Arlington, VA. No federal or Marine Corps endorsement is implied.
