(RWire) Athletics: Saucony®, Hospital Hill Run Announce the Saucony Team Challenge 2010

Top running clubs to vie for honors and $8500 prize money

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - (March 17, 2010) - Saucony, Inc., a leading global supplier of performance athletic footwear and apparel, and the Hospital Hill Run have announced the first ever Saucony Team Challenge hosted by Hospital Hill Run on Saturday, June 5, 2010. The Saucony Team Challenge will bring running clubs from all over the United States to compete against one another on one of the toughest half-marathon courses around.

Running clubs will compete in two separate divisions (men's and women's) and can enter a maximum of five runners per team. Teams must enter a minimum of three runners. In both divisions, the three fastest finishers will count toward team scoring. The team with the lowest combined finish time among their scoring runners will be declared the winning team in its division. Clock time (gun time) will be the official recorded time for all Saucony Team Challenge participants.

"We are very excited for the Saucony Team Challenge," stated Beth Salinger, Race Director of the Hospital Hill Run. "It will bring together many of the best up-and-coming athletes in the United States, showcasing their skills on a truly challenging course."

A trophy will be presented to the overall team champions, and prize money will be awarded to the top three men's and women's teams as follows: $2500, $1000 and $750.

"We're thrilled that Hospital Hill and Saucony are bringing the team challenge to the event this year," said Ben Rosario, owner of Big River Running in St. Louis, Missouri. "Our club, and others like us, use these types of competitions as motivation to continue training at a high level. The more people we have training hard in this country, the better American distance running will be in the long term."

To participate in the Saucony Team Challenge, running clubs must be registered with USATF for 2010. All athletes entering as part of a club team must be affiliated with that club as part of their current USATF membership.

In addition to the standard athlete perks, participants of the Saucony Team Challenge will also receive a complimentary course tour, an elite technical meeting, complimentary pasta dinner, guaranteed start position at the front of the field and entry into the Saucony Team Challenge tent located near the start line. The tent will have a gear check, private port-o-potties, water and energy drinks.
