Athletics: Guelph's Milne Has Record Setting Run In Hamilton

Speed River's Taylor Milne kicked off his outdoor season Sunday with a course record run at the Around The Bay 5k Road Race in Hamilton. Milne sliced 2 seconds off teammate Rob Watson's course record in securing the win with a time of 14 minutes and 10 seconds. He was joined on the men's podium by teammate Chris Winter, who posted a 17 second life time best to capture the bronze in 14 minutes and 18 seconds. Rounding out the Speed River contingent on the men's side was Cleve Thorson who finished sixth in 15:01.

History was also made in the women's race with the closest finish in Around The Bay history, Puslinch's Megan Brown got the win with Speed River's Amber McGown a second back in 16 minutes and 46 seconds. Guelph Gryphon star Lindsay Carson was third in her first race since the CIS Cross Country Championships with a time 17 minutes and 13 seconds, while Speed River's Dana Buchanan was fourth in 17 minutes and 24 seconds.

Milne and Thorson will be back in action next weekend at the Harry's Spring Run Off eight kilometer race in Toronto, where they will be joined by Rob Watson in his first race since last August's World Championships and Eric Gillis, who will be racing for the first time since his stunning marathon debut.
