Triathlon: Michael Raelert and Mirinda Carfrae Claim Victory at Rohto Ironman 70.3 California

March 27, 2010 (Oceanside, Calif.) - Today, Germany's Michael Raelert and Australia's Mirinda Carfrae captured wins at the 2010 Rohto Ironman 70.3 California, an event in its eleventh year. Raelert, the reigning 70.3 World Champion who also set a course record at the Clearwater event, finished with an overall time of 3:58:27. Former Ironman 70.3 World Champion, Carfrae took the lead on the run and crossed the line at 4:20:29.

A highly competitive men's field today consisted of the top five finishers listed below, in addition to several others such as past Ironman World Champion, Tim DeBoom and Ironman Champion, Michael Lovato. Exiting the water right behind the men's swim leader, Kyle Leto, Raelert took the lead at mile 40 on the bike, after a solid pace had been set by Andrew Yoder from the U.S. Raelert claimed the fastest bike split of the day and maintained the lead throughout the entirety of the 13.1-mile run.

Tp five professional men's results are as follows:
1. Michael Raelert, DEU 3:58:27
2. Matt Reed, USA 4:01:17
3. Rasmus Henning, DNK 4:02:07
4. Richie Cunningham, AUS  4:03:02
5. Tim O'Donnell, USA 4:03:21

Carfrae also saw competition with a strong women's field and while Leanda Cave led out of water and entered transition in first after the 56-mile bike, Carfrae made up time in T2. She quickly took over and celebrated a blistering run split, completing the half-marathon course in 1 hour, 17 minutes, the same time in which Raelert completed the run course today.

Top five professional women's results are as follows:
1. Mirinda Carfrae, AUS 4:20:29
2. Lesley Patterson, USA  4:24:31
3. Samantha McGlone, CAN  4:26:43
4. Leanda Cave, GBR 4:29:56
5. Kate Major, AUS 4:30:15

Today's event, with approximately 2,200 competitors at the start line, saw cool conditions and water temperature at 59 degrees Fahrenheit. Finishers, after completing a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike and a 13.1-mile run, were greeted with sunny skies, low humidity and temperatures in the mid 70s.
