(RWire) Athletics: Mikolajczak Three-Peats at Marine Corps Marathon's Run Amuck



More than 2,100 Runners "Let the Mud Fly" aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico

QUANTICO, Va. - (August 14, 2010) - William Mikolajczak, 24, of Triangle, VA, finished the Run Amuck held aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico on Saturday in a time of 21 minutes, 8 seconds for a third consecutive title. The two-time defending champion led all 2,130 runners who hailed from 36 states in the 3.5 mile event that featured challenging obstacles, military PT drills and giant pits of mud!

Only seconds behind Mikolajczak was Andrew Lee, 23, of Vancouver, Washington, who finished second for the men at 21:11. Kyle Gutierrez, 21 of Woodbridge, VA finished as the third top male runner at 21:45.

Robin Witlin, 37, of Oak Hill, VA was the first woman to cross the Run Amuck finish line at 25:07. Angel Stone, 32, of Arlington, VA was runnerpup at 25:54.

"It [Run Amuck] was a lot of fun and I will definitely do it again," said Stone, a personal trainer who convinced a team of 10 of her clients to participate. "This is my third time at Run Amuck."

Rounding in at third place for the women was young Briannna Krumholz, who at just 15, finished in 25:59.

The Masters winners were local runners as well, as Arlington resident, Jeff Bedell, 41, finished first among the males running 23:40, while Win Persina, 50, of Washington, DC, finished 27:01 in the female Masters category.
