Race entry fee to increase August 31 for Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon
San Antonio, TX (August 30, 2010) -- For the third year, runners in Texas can gain compete for statewide bragging rights. The Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon & Half Marathon benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure presents the Texas Showdown, which pits the best runners in Texas against each other for a "Texas only" prize purse. The race takes place on Sunday, November 14, 2010.
"The Texas Showdown is a unique opportunity for us to attract and support talented athletes throughout the state," said Matt Turnbull, Elite Athlete Coordinator for the event. "It also allows up-and-coming local runners to build their careers and compete for a prize purse dedicated to Texas athletes."
The Texas Showdown is a "race within the race" open to all Texas runners in both the half and full marathon. To qualify, runners must have been a permanent resident in the state of Texas as of November 14, 2009. Complimentary entries and accommodations are available for some qualifying athletes, who in the last 12 months have achieved a marathon or half marathon time of 2:43/1:13:30 (male) and 3:07:20/1:24 (female).
Eligible Texas runners are encouraged to submit a resume for consideration for complimentary entries to Matt Turnbull (mturnbull@competitorgroup.com) before October 1, 2010.
Runners interested in participating should take note of a price increase set to take place Tuesday, August 31. Full marathon entries will increase from $95 to $120 and half marathon entries from $90 to $105. To register, visit www.san-antonio.competitor.com.

About Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio
The third annual Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon & Half Marathon benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure will take place on November 14, 2010. The Marathon & Half Marathon courses give runners a first-class tour of the city, and travels through many of the city's historic sites and parks. 45 live bands and 30 spirited cheer squads will be staged along every mile of the, scenic 13.1 and 26.2 mile courses. The event concludes with a concert and finish line festival.
A two-day Health & Fitness Expo kicks off race week at the Alamodome on Friday, November 12 and Saturday, November 13. All participants must visit the expo to pick up their race numbers and browse over 100 vendors from the running and fitness industry.
