INDIANAPOLIS - Tyson Gay and Nick Symmonds each set a meet record when they won the men's 100m and 800m, respectively, Wednesday at the 60th edition of the Hanzekovic Memorial in Zagreb, Croatia.
In the men's 100m, it was a race between Gay and co-world leader Nesta Carter (JAM). Carter had the lead at the halfway point but by 60m Gay was powering past him. Gay carried that surge all the way to the finish to win in a meet record 9.92. Carter was the runner-up in 10.07 and Mike Rodgers was third in 10.14.
Three-time USA Outdoor champion Nick Symmonds won the men's 800m in a meet record 1:45.37, while Morgan Uceny finished as the runner-up in the women's 800m in 1:59.49. Justin Gaymon won the men's 400m hurdles in 49.19 and Marshevet Myers won the women's 200m in 22.94.
In the women's 400m, 2008 Olympic 4x400m gold medalist Natasha Hastings upset reigning World Indoor champion Debbie Dunn, winning the race in 51.35 to Dunn's runner-up 51.75. Lolo Jones edged out Canada's Perdita Felicien to win the women's 100m hurdles in 12.87 to Felicien's 12.88.
2010 World Outdoor champion Dwight Phillips won the men's long jump on his first attempt with a leap of 7.85m/25-9.25. Reigning World Indoor and Outdoor champion Christian Cantwell won the men's shot put with a heave of 22.22m/72-10.75, while Reese Hoffa took runner-up honors with 21.48m/70-5.75 and Cory Martin finished third with 20.90m/68-7.
