October event to take place in Town Brookhaven
June 29, 2011: US Road Sports & Entertainment Group (USRS), owners and operators of the ING Miami Marathon, Publix Georgia Marathon, Chicago Half Marathon, New Jersey Marathon and the 13.1 Marathon® Series, announced today the relocation of the start/finish area for the 13.1® Atlanta Marathon. The event will take place in Town Brookhaven on Sunday, October 2.
The course encompasses Town Brookhaven in Atlanta's Brookhaven community, situated on Peachtree Road, north of Lenox Square Mall and Phipps Plaza, and borders the historic Oglethorpe University.
"I am so excited to be a part of this event. Town Brookhaven is a premiere pedestrian-friendly urban community," said Gretchen Roberts, Marketing Director, Sembler/Town Brookhaven. "As we continue to brand Brookhaven, this is just one of many opportunities we have to bring the community together."
The new start line has been improved and will feature wider lanes with less congestion allowing for a smoother transition to accommodate all the participants. For the finish line, Town Brookhaven will add a festive atmosphere for the runners who have completed their 13.1 mile journey and want to celebrate a personal victory.
Scheduled to be located in the Town Green, the new start/finish line will be adjacent to the recently opened hybrid Publix at 104 Town Boulevard in the Town Brookhaven development off Peachtree Road.
"We are pleased to unveil a vastly improved start/finish line which will enable the runners a better opportunity for a strong start," said Jeff Graves, 13.1® Atlanta Marathon Race Director. "By changing this aspect, runners will have a better overall experience on race day."
The 2011 13.1 Marathon® Series spans the U.S., and began in Los Angeles in January along the shores of the Santa Monica Bay and the world famous Venice Beach area. 13.1 Marathon® Series has also visited Miami Beach with a now famous beach party, New York City in the shadow of the Unispere in Flushing Meadow Park and Chicago which shows you the South Side like it was meant to be seen.
