(RWire) Athletics: Everclear to Headline Finish Line Concert at Austin 10/20

Course and prize purse also unveiled for inaugural 10 mile road race; 10,000 entrant cap

AUSTIN, Texas - (January 18, 2012) - The Austin 10/20, the new Texas 10 mile running event sensation, has announced the signing of Everclear as the finish line concert band. They will be the feature act on the main stage and will go on at 10:45am race day April 15. The concert is free for all race participants, spectators and volunteers.

Formed in Portland Oregon in 1992, Everclear is well known for numerous radio hits such as "Wonderful" and "Father of Mine". Their songs have been featured in films American Pie and Scream 2. The Austin 10/20 is thrilled to have them take the main stage on April 15 to cap off the inaugural Austin 10/20.

Event Manager Shannon Madigan said, "Everclear has a great following in Austin and are well known nationally. They fit perfectly with our runner demographics and we're looking forward to a fantastic post-race concert."

Everclear will be playing at the finish line party after 10 miles and 20 stages (one every 1/2 mile) full of local Austin bands. The 10 mile course and band locations were recently unveiled and can be seen on the website at www.austin1020.com. The North Austin course starts and finishes at The Domain.

Race Director Peter Douglass said, "Our course is truly flat and fast which is unusual in Austin. Our participants should really enjoy it, especially with all the entertainment we have along the way!"

The race course has undergone full review from the City of Austin and has been conditionally approved. The City expressed concern about overcrowding and has put a cap of 10,000 on the participant number. Race entries have been coming in steadily and a sellout is expected.

The Austin 10/20 has also announced a significant cash prize purse for elite athletes in the male and female Open divisions with $23,000 in guaranteed prize money and another $20,000 in record bonuses are up for grabs. Texas residents get an additional 20% cash bonus if they finish in the money.

"The Austin 10/20 is going to be the most entertaining running event in America this year, but we're hoping that with our prize money and flat course, it's going to be one of the fastest as well," said Douglass. "We'll find out on April 15."
