MCM Team, Miles the bulldog and Sodexo will Present Award and $1,000 to the School
QUANTICO, VA (Jan. 25, 2012) - The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) will present the Healthy School Award to the students of William Ramsay Elementary School in Alexandria, VA on Thursday, Jan. 26. The Healthy School Award will be presented during a student assembly in the school auditorium located at 5700 Sanger Ave. in Alexandria. The event will begin at 8:15 a.m.
During the award program, MCM partner Sodexo will present a check for $1,000 to the school's PE department while also providing healthy snacks to every student. Additionally, the National Children's Museum's "Museum Without Walls" team will present programming focusing on physical fitness and activity. U.S. Marines from Marine Corps Base Quantico and the MCM mascot, Miles, will join MCM Director Rick Nealis in a fitness demonstration for the students.
This is the second year William Ramsay is receiving the Healthy School Award for participating in the MCM Healthy Kids Fun Run held on Oct. 29, 2011. The kids, ages 5 to 12, ran one-mile during MCM Weekend in Arlington, VA. William Ramsay included 90 students and is one of five schools in Alexandria and Springfield, VA to garner the most runners for the October event.
The 2012 Healthy Kids Fun Run will open for online registration at noon Eastern on April 4 at MarineMarathon.com. Parents can register kids for the event that will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27.
