Akron, Ohio (June 20, 2012) -- One hundred days prior to race day, The Akron Marathon, Presented by Time Warner Cable, is 75 percent sold out for the full marathon. The half marathon and team relay are also reaching record high registration rates.
Event organizers encourage participant hopefuls to register early, before event caps are met.
"We are ecstatic to be in a position to likely sell-out for our 10th annual event," said executive race director Jim Barnett. "The large crowd will bring unprecedented enthusiasm to the race. We strongly encourage marathon, half marathon and relay participants to register early in order to ensure a spot in this premier event."
Race day events include the Full Marathon; a Half Marathon, presented by Acme Fresh Markets; a 5-person Team Relay, presented by Novo Nordisk; and a Kids Fun Run. Participants can register for the Kids Fun Run through race day.
The record high registration is partially a result of the race entering its 10th annual year.
"The community has truly embraced the Akron Marathon throughout the years," Barnett said. "We have expanded every year since the race's inception in 2003."
The Akron Marathon has modified the race course for 2012 to help accommodate an ever increasing number of participants. Until race caps are met, registration is available at www.AkronMarathon.org.
