Including the First Timers Pep Rally, the new Runners bRUNch and Runners Conference
QUANTICO, VA (Aug. 30, 2012) - The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) is offering registered participants the select opportunity to reserve their spot for limited access events held during MCM Weekend. This exclusive offer opens at noon Eastern on Wednesday, Sept. 5.
Those registered for the 37th MCM will be able to sign up for the newest weekend event - the Runners bRUNch - as well as MCM Runners Conference. Registration for both events will be available on the MCM website at www.marinemarathon.com. Also on Sept. 5, all first time MCM participants (about 12,000 first timers) will receive an exclusive email invitation to the First Timers Pep Rally, which is limited to 1,000 attendees.
The Runners bRUNch, open to all on Saturday Oct. 27, is a light training 5K run from Rosslyn's Freedom Park to the Marine Corps War Memorial, the site of the iconic MCM finish. Participants will enjoy a Saturday morning run through Arlington, VA starting at 9 a.m. with MCM Deputy Director Angela Huff and "Runner's World" Chief Officer Bart Yasso. At the end of the 5K, participants will enjoy a catered breakfast hosted in the MCM VIP tent. Yasso will suggest race-day tactics and tips while telling stories from the road during this pre-race day event. The Runners bRUNch costs $20. All participants will receive a commemorative runner's bib and limited edition coin from Warrior Chip.
The First Timers Pep Rally is the celebratory kickoff exclusively for first time MCM participants and one guest. First Timers will want to sign up quickly to attend the Pep Rally on Friday, Oct. 26 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will be held at the MCM's headquarters hotel, the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. The Pep Rally will include prizes, giveaways, entertainment, appetizers and a cash bar. The Pep Rally includes an expert panel to answer first timer questions. All First Timers attending will receive a commemorative pin. The cost is $5 per runner, and $10 for one guest. All runners are limited to just one guest for this event.
The MCM Runners Conference on Saturday, Oct. 27 is also opening to limited reservation. Two 60-minute sessions will be offered at the Hyatt. The "Introduction to the MCM" beginning at 1 p.m. includes the panel led by MCM Director Rick Nealis. The "First Timers" session will follow at 2:15 p.m., featuring Mark Remy, "Runner's World" Editor-At-Large and Jeff Dengate, "Runner's World" Senior Editor. Those attending will also receive a limited edition coin from Warrior Chip.
