Triathlon: 2013 -- It's My Year To Give It A Tri

Triathlon England looking to hear your New Year Resolutions!

2012 was a year designed to ‘Inspire a Generation'. The London 2012 Olympic Games have made the country go sport crazy and there is no better year than 2013 to make your inspiration a New Year's resolution.

Completing a triathlon appears on many New Year's Resolution lists in England. Triathlon England is looking to hear from you if you have been inspired to do the ultimate event in 2013. It couldn't be easier to tell us why you are planning to complete a Triathlon, just visit www.facebook.com/triathlon.england and follow the instructions.

The ten best stories on why you have been inspired to complete a Triathlon in 2013 on our Facebook page will each receive a free membership to Triathlon England.

Over the past 12 months, interest in the sport has increased dramatically and more women in particular are getting involved and 'giving it a tri' for themselves. In 2012, over 700 triathlons, duathlons and aquathlons took place in England, seeing over 125,000 people competing, many of them for the first time. Triathlon England aims to enable many more opportunities in 2013 and beyond to enable everyone to achieve their personal triathlon challenge.

Jem Lawson, Chair of Triathlon England, said: “Triathlon is a fast growing sport; by now almost everyone will at least know somebody who has done a triathlon. It's a great lifestyle sport; participation can help you to get fit, to stay fit but also to compete at a high level. At Triathlon England we have a real desire to get almost everyone to actually do a triathlon. We know that if you do one, you'll probably want to do another.”

The standard distance of a triathlon, is a 1500m swim, 40km bike and finished off with a 10km run. The swim section can be held in a pool or open-water, the bike on roads or trails (for cross triathlon) and the run on roads or trails. However, there are many shorter and longer distance events, so there is a triathlon event for everyone.

Make your New Year's resolution in 2013 to complete a triathlon. Tell us why you're inspired on the Triathlon England Facebook page Facebook.com for the chance to win a free Triathlon England membership.*

For more information on the 2013 events please visit: TriathlonEngland.org or contact the Triathlon England events team at: events@triathlonengland.org.

*Top 10 entries submitted, voted by a Triathlon England judging group, will win a 2013 Triathlon England membership.
