Athletics: Rock 'n' Roll Oslo Half Marathon Attracts Runners to Norway

Race registration opens today with a starting price of $89 through March 15

OSLO, NORWAY--- January 10, 2013 --- The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series, the world’s largest running series with more than 500,000 participants in 25 U.S. cities and six European cities, today opened registration for the inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Oslo Half Marathon, taking place on Saturday, June 15, 2013. The race in Norway was recently added to the 2013 International Tour Schedule which also includes races in Nice, France; Lisbon, Portugal; Edinburgh, Scotland; Madrid, Spain, and Dublin, Ireland.

From cultural and historical sites to peaceful woodlands and spectacular shorelines, participants will enjoy every mile of the scenic 13.1-mile course through Norway’s capital. Participants will run by notable attractions such as the Nobel Peace Centre, Norwegian Folk Museum, Akershus Fortress, The Royal Palace and the King’s Farm, Bygdoy Peninsula and the city harbors, among others. The race culminates with a beautiful waterfront finish and rockin’ finish line festival with a post-race concert.

"Set in ideal summer running weather, the race course will show off the very best of Oslo," said Tom Godfrey, European General Manager of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series. "In addition to the upbeat live music entertainment along the course, participants can also build out their trip to Norway by attending other local music and sporting events such as the Norwegian Wood Festival and Bislett Games that take place the same week as the race. Oslo will be buzzing and we’re looking forward to a great race weekend."

The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series started as a single race in 1998, and is now the World’s Largest Running Series that has grown to include a global tour of 32 events in 2013. The series was the first to combine the potential of running races as grand celebrations of health and wellness by combining a tourist destination, recreational running, charity fundraising, and musical entertainment into a single event. To guarantee no runner is left to hear their own lonely footsteps, live bands are positioned along the course, intermixed with entertainment and a festival at the finish line as a reward for all the participants.

Registration is 500 NOK (approximately $89.28 US) through March 15 and online registration is open at NO.Competitor.com.

About The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series

Organized by Competitor Group, the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series is the ‘World’s Largest Running Series’ with more than 500,000 runners taking part in 32 destination events around the world. What started as a simple idea in 1998---the idea of making running fun---soon transformed the U.S. running landscape by infusing the race course with live bands, cheer teams and entertaining water stations. The outdoor festivals encapsulate cities in their entirety and culminate with a finish line festival featuring a concert headlined by some of the best music acts around. Over the 15-year history of the series, charity partners have raised more than $278 million through the events for a variety of worthy causes. Today, the series of entertainment themed marathons and half-marathons has spread to 32 cities around the world and continues to enjoy great appeal for the traveling runner, tremendous local support and has firmly established itself as a dynamic running platform.
