Last year's race sold old, 33rd edition of the marathon along the shores of Lake Michigan set for Sunday, October 6, 2013
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - The 33rd edition of the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon, presented by the Badgerland Striders, the largest running club in Wisconsin, will open for registration at 12:01 am on Monday morning, January 14.
The event is once again open to the first 3,100 runners to participate in the 26.2 mile journey from Grafton, Wisconsin down the shores of Lake Michigan before finishing at Veteran's Park in downtown Milwaukee.
This year's race for the first time in more than a decade is being lead by Race Director Jon Mueller, a long-time runner of over 50 marathons and a lifetime member of the Badgerland Striders, who takes over after the long-standing leadership and commitment to the race of Kristine Hinrichs, who stepped down in October 2012.
“It is a tremendous honor to lead this world-class event, and I know I have big shoes to fill in what Kris did,” said Mueller, a leader of the Badgerland Strider build-up program for years and a licensed chiropractor by day. “We've done our best to re-assemble a great organizational team. To our runners, the experience will continue to remain among the best on the Wisconsin and national marathon circuit.
The 2013 race will start at 7:30 am from Grafton High School. Mueller also noted that he and his team are working to finalize additional details on the annual expo/packet pickup and race weekend, with upcoming announcements later in 2013. A unique aspect of the 2012 race featured running teams from both the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and Concordia University Mequon in an intercollegiate challenge dubbed Paws vs. Claws. Mueller anticipates this friendly rivalry will continue for years to come.
