Athletics: Muscle Milk Light ZOOMA Women's Race Series Launches Personal Best Program

Participants who complete a distance best or set a personal record will receive a special "PR" medal at the finish line party

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Muscle Milk Light ZOOMA Women's Race Series announced a program whereby it will offer special "PR" medals to participants for running faster or longer than ever before.

ZOOMA, the first national women's half-marathon series, has a history of pioneering new concepts in women's running. Today, with the announcement of the 2013 ZOOMA Personal Best program, ZOOMA reaffirms its commitment to furthering the sport of women's running.

The ZOOMA Personal Best program challenges runners or walkers to complete a distance best or set a personal record. If they achieve their goal, athletes will receive a special "PR" medal at the finish line party, offering the opportunity for extra bragging rights.

ZOOMA announces the Personal Best program in the midst of a growing trend toward costume and theme races. By encouraging women to run faster and longer, ZOOMA shows its commitment to the sport of running—serious racing meets serious celebration.

In 2008, ZOOMA held one of the nation's first women's half-marathon races in Annapolis, Md,, and attracted over 1,500 participants with its promises of a professionally-managed race with a "girls' weekend" atmosphere, including amenities like post-race wine and massage.

"In 2007, when we launched the concept of a national women's half marathon series, ZOOMA's mission was defined as 'inspiring women to live healthy and active lives.' We were totally committed to getting more women running," said Brae Blackley, Founder and Executive Director of ZOOMA. "In some ways, we have accomplished a piece of our mission. Now, women make up nearly 60% of all half-marathon finishers and there are women's races all over the country. Women are running. This year we are saying--let's take that next step. Let's run longer or faster. And we're going to help you."

ZOOMA is dedicated to promoting women's health and fitness by encouraging women to participate in a weekend of fitness and social activities, including "mocktail" hours, film screenings, yoga, speakers, a challenging half marathon or 10K/5K, and culminating with a unique post-race party including wine, live music, massage, and shopping. Five ZOOMA events will be held in upscale locations around the U.S. in 2013, including Amelia Island, Fl.; Austin, Texas; Annapolis, Md.; Cape Cod, Mass.; and Chicago, Ill.
