NAPLES, FL (February 13, 2013) -- Registration opens today, February 13, for the 2014 HITS Triathlon Series event in Naples, Florida January 11-12 of next year. To register for HITS Naples 2014, please visit HitsTriathlonSeries.com.
It is expected that several of the Naples distances will sell out before race day. As an incentive for early registration, all athletes who complete their registration more than four months out will receive 50% off the regular registration fee.
Boasting the "a distance for everyone!"(TM) mantra, HITS Triathlon Series will offer five distances in Naples, including Sprint, Olympic, Half, and Full, as well as the popular HITS Open, and will cap each at 500 athletes. The event will continue to grow the sport of triathlon as new triathletes are born from the Open's 100 meter swim, 3 mile bike and 1 mile run. Seasoned athletes, however, will experience a picture-perfect ocean-water swim and flat, fast bike and run courses during the Sprint, Olympic, Half and Full distance events.
"I raced in this race at the Full distance this past year and look forward to doing so again in January of 2014," said HITS president and CEO, Tom Struzzieri. "The swim was two loops parallel to the shore, which was perfect for me. The courses are flat and very fast -- it's certainly the place for a PR."
Dirk Bockel of Luxembourg swam, biked and ran his way to a win and a course record last month in the 2013 HITS Naples Half. He posted a final time of 3:50:40 and expects the race to grow significantly in the near future. "This series is going to be a major competitor -- it's a great system that brings triathlon to the people and welcomes a mix of both professionals and beginners. That's pretty unique and something that we should build on," said Bockel, a 36-year-old professional triathlete who currently hails from St. Augustine, Florida.

"The local authorities, especially the Collier County Sheriff's Department, have been a pleasure to work with in Naples," said Mark H. Wilson, HITS Triathlon Series race director. "Both the 2012 and 2013 events were home runs for us and I expect that this grows into one of the more popular events in the country -- it's just a perfect location."
All 2014 events will offer qualifying opportunities for HITS Athlete of the Year Awards, which will be presented at the HITS Championship in Palm Springs, California in December 2014.
