Cocoa Beach, Fla. - Triathletes along coastal Central Florida will head back into the competitive race scene on April 14 when Cocoa Beach plays host to the 4th Annual Ron Jon Cocoa Beach Triathlon and the Star Kids Triathlon.
The adult triathlon is a relatively short sprint-distance race featuring a .25 mile swim in the Banana River, a 12.5 mile bike ride through Cocoa Beach and down coastal highway A1A, and a 3.1 mile run onto the Cocoa Beach golf course and a riverfront neighborhood.
The event has become a regular early season tune-up for established triathletes and a favorite of first-timers. The Ron Jon Cocoa Beach Triathlon will be a USA Triathlon-sanctioned event and offers live music, lots of food and a medal to each athlete crossing the finish line.
Held in the same area and immediately following the Cocoa Beach Triathlon, the Star Kids Tri features multiple swim, bike and run distances depending on the age of the athlete. All kids' swimming takes place in the Cocoa Beach Aquatic Center swimming pool in a time trial format.
The kids triathlon is unique in that it gives parents the opportunity to participate in their own race and then to coach and cheer their children on later in the morning. The Star Kids Tri is limited to 120 young athletes and sold out in 2012.
The Star Kids Tri will also be a USA Triathlon-sanctioned, with lots of food at the finish line. For the first time ever, all finishers will receive a custom post-race medal featuring the Star Kids logo.
Information on both events can be found at www.cocoabeachtriathlon.com and www.starkidstri.com. Both races will be timed by Sommer Sports of Clermont, Fl.
The Ron Jon Cocoa Beach Triathlon and Star Kids Tri are both produced by Smooth Running, LLC; the producer of the Melbourne Music Marathon Weekend, the Beach Running World Championships and the upcoming Rocketman Florida Triathlon.
