Online entry for the 8th annual Sports 4 Emilie's Run - The Emilie Mondor Memorial 5K Race for Women - closes at 6 PM on Sunday, June 16th. In person, raceday entry will be available from 6:00 AM to 7:30 AM at the race site at the Aviation Museum on June 22nd.
Sports 4 Emilie's Run was founded as the RunnersWeb 5K race for women in 2006. At the time it was the only "women's only" road race in Canada. It was renamed Emilie's Run in honor of Emilie Mondor in 2007. Emilie was a Canadian Olympian and the fist Canadian woman to run under 15:00 for 5K. She was killed in an automobile accident in the fall of 2006.
Sports 4 - Ottawa's premier running store - came on board as the title sponsor in 2012 and provides over $4,000 in cash prizes.
In 2012 Mary Davies, a New Zealander, who was living in Ottawa at the time, set a new course record of 16:08.5.
Although the race attracts a number of fast runners - last year 22 women ran sub 20:00 - the race is open to women runners and walkers of all levels and is designed to be a "Celebration of Women's Running".
The 5K route along the Rockcliffe Parkway is a fast, certified and sanctioned event. Timing is done by SportStats, North America's top sports timing company.
New Start Time
For this year the 5K race starts at 8 AM and the Children's (boys and girls) age 11 and under 1K run starts at 9 AM. This change was implemented at the request of the Aviation Museum due to an exhibit at the museum.
