Athletics: Competitor Group, WRAL-TV Announce Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Partnership

Leading broadcast station named presenting sponsor and official media partner of the inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Raleigh Marathon & Half Marathon on Sunday, April 13, 2014

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Competitor Group, the leading active lifestyle sports media and event entertainment company, and Capitol Broadcasting Company announced a partnership with WRAL as the presenting sponsor of the inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Raleigh Marathon & Half-Marathon.

The international race series will make its North Carolina debut on Sunday, April 13, 2014 combining live entertainment and fitness, featuring bands performing at every mile along the course, cheerleaders encouraging runners throughout the race and a headline concert at the finish line.

Over the 16-year history of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series, charity participants have raised more than $287 million for a variety of worthy causes and nonprofit organizations. The energy and enthusiasm of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon aligns perfectly with WRAL's belief in supporting national events in Raleigh.

"The Rock 'n' Roll Raleigh Marathon promises a tremendous event that will showcase Raleigh to runners from around the world," said Steven D. Hammel, Vice President and General Manager of WRAL-TV. Event weekend kicks off with a 2-day Health & Fitness Expo at the Raleigh Convention Center, where all participants go to pick up their race number. The expo will feature samples, showcase the latest in running gear, sports apparel, health and nutritional information and much more.
