Athletics: Fleet Feet Sports Announces Opening of New Franchise Location in San Diego

Local owner and California native Kevin Lachenmyer will open store Sept. 1

Carrboro, N.C. - Fleet Feet Sports, the retail leader in building and supporting thriving local running communities, announces that California native Kevin Lachenmyer will open a new Fleet Feet Sports location in San Diego, Calif. on Sept. 1. The store is located in The Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch shopping center at 5980 Village Way, Suite 108.

Originally from Orange County in California, Lachenmyer previously worked as an employee of the Fleet Feet Sports franchise in San Francisco, as well as an associate at Verizon. An active member of the San Diego fitness community, Lachenmyer graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

"Kevin and the staff there are committed to creating a wonderful retail and community support destination for all San Diego runners—from the very passionate to the very new," says Jeff Phillips, CEO and president of Fleet Feet Sports. "With Kevin, I know Fleet Feet Sports’ commitment to empowering communities will be evident from day one."

Following Fleet Feet Sports’ model for its 164 locally owned-and-operated stores nationwide, the San Diego store will offer a premium selection of top running products, employ a professionally-trained staff of FIT specialists, and offer and support year-round running and training programs, community initiatives, social runs, and more.

"I’ve always had a passion for three things—health, owning my own business, and affecting real change that positively impacts the community," says Lachenmyer. "Opening up my own Fleet Feet Sports store allows me to experience these three things every day, and with the support and love of my dad and mom, I know this store can do a lot for the community and anyone looking for information, inspiration, or motivation."

The store will launch its No Boundaries beginning 5k running program, the first of many running programs planned for the community, in November. Program participants will train for the Carmel Valley 5K, held in January at The Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch. The store will also offer free weekly fun runs and yoga from the store beginning in September. All levels of participants are encouraged to join, and information for the programs will be found at fleetfeetsandiego.com.

A grand opening celebration will take place Sept. 9-11. Events include a happy hour in the store, morning fun runs, and yoga. The store will hold raffles and offer exclusive discounts all weekend. Brand reps will be on-site demoing running shoes, gear, and nutrition.

With the addition of the San Diego location, Fleet Feet Sports now has a total of six locations in southern California: Encino, Westlake Village, Burbank, Rancho Cucamonga, and the recently-opened Laguna Niguel.
