Comments: Running is a 30 + year hobby. It is an ingrained part of my life style. I admire those who are able to dedicate themselves so fervently they attain world class competitiveness. You certainly are attractive and appear to enjoy being a triathelete. May you remain blessed in good health and you are able to enjoy participating for many years to come. Running has preserved my youth and makes it possible for me to look to the next day and the opportunity for my body to enjoy the rhythmic movement and breathing of a good long run. Wish you good fortune in all your endeavors.

Comments: Yo Sharon, I realized the Cancun WC was on this weekend, so I thought I would check your site to see how you are doing. Little did I realize that your nagging hamstring that has been bugging you for years took you out of a whole pile of races since we last talked. Oh well, at least its not a Commonwealth Games, Pan Am or Olymic year. I read the story of how you pushed your hamstring a bit too hard running with the group in Victoria. Well if anyone I know who is able to stick to the plan and not get carried away by others in training it would be you. I remember going to the track with you at 95 World Military Games and watching everyone hammer themselves into the ground 3 days before the race...well, everyone but you. They all had crappy races and you had a good one. So rest up and go back to your philosophy on training and racing. Hope to see you and Dave out for some ski racing and traininig in the Gatineaus this winter. Take care Dev PS. Brandon ran his first road race this summer. Did 1.2 K in around 6 min or so...better than my Ironman shuffle pace !

Comments: I just wanted to let you know how happy I was to have the opportunity to talk to you in person at the 4th annual RMC Legacy Dinner! Your an inspiration to me as I'm working extremely hard to reach the level of competition your competing at. Sometimes I have my doubts on whether or not it is realistic to pursue such a goal while being in the military but your proof that it can be done. Thanks, and good luck on Nov. 4!

Comments: Hello, cool site, I'm a runner from N.S. and I'm thinking some day I want to do a triathlon. I have friends that do them and I have participated in a team event as the runner. Paul Crosby is now in Ontario going to school and I think competing in triathlons. He won them all in Pictou County in his age group. His a friend that I trained for races with. We have competed against each other in Cross country and track events for school. Best of luck in your sport and hopefully some day I can complete my first triathlon.

Comments: Hi Sharon, My name is Nicole Patterson, and I am definately one of your biggest fans. I am 13 years old, and am just entering the world of triathalons. I have been participating in Kids of Steel since I was 7 years of age, but have just started to compete. This year I am racing in the Subaru series, and have completed 3 subaru sprints this season. I just want you to know that after I saw you and Carol Montgomery compete in the Toronto World Cup last year, you motivated me for life. I have a long way to go, but without your help, I might not have even gone this far. I am coming to watch you this Sat at the second Toronto World Cup, and I wish you the best of luck. The main thing about triathalons, is that you have to love the sport. Like you, I love triathalons with a passion. It would mean the world to me if you e-mailed me back. I would print out the e-mail, and keep it with me forever. Thank-you for your support, (even though you didn't know). Sincerely, Nicole Patterson

Finally I decided to get into triathlons myself, inspired by you of course, and now I can't understand why I didn't start a long time ago!! It's a blast, lots of hard work - great 'tri' people here in Ottawa. I have a great respect for you and what it takes to compete, especially at a high level. Comments: Sharon, I haven't seen you since you led the 2 Svc Bn Biathalon Tm to train and compete in valcarties in 1994. I'm certain that you are disappointed, but your strength of character and determination shone through. I, as I am certain all Canadains are, am very proud of you. It was emotional to watch you during the triathalon and good to see you enjoying yourself at the closing ceremonies. The CBC commentators made some good comments about, 'Sharon Donnelly the Kingston Kid who as an RMC graduate got back on her bike and finished the race'. (I might have got the quote wrong, but the manner in which they described your determination and the matter of fact way in which they spoke of your strength, without any doubt or amazment, speaks highly of the impression you leave on people.) Please pass on my congratulations to the rest of the Canadian Olympians. Great flag at the closing ceremonies! Must have been a great party! Will you be out in Edmonton next summer for the world track and field competiton? Hope to see you then. Congratulations. Dan MacIsaac

Comments: Hi Sharon, Long time since you've heard from me eh?! I've really been looking forward to your participation in the Olympics. On the friday (Calgary time) of the triathlon my girlfriend Maureen, her son Alex, and I were on a drive to the mountains, all the while thinking of you and hoping you were doing well. When we got to our hotel room we were glued to the TV to get an update. We were heartbroken to hear of the crash and yet still immensely impressed with you. Sat morning we caught the one on one interview you had with CBC and all three of us were again totally glued to the TV. We were all proud of you and so impressed with your perseverance and composure to say the least. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that you moved and inspired us. I don't imagine you'll be back for x-cadet weekend, but hope to see you again soon in any case. Enjoy the rest of your time in Sydney!! Phil P.S. If you see Jill Hyland, please say hi to her for me.

You could've blamed any number of factors for not getting a medal but you didn't!We are not a RAW RAW country like some others...and I'm glad for that. You finished and held you head high...You deserve to.Those teachers could show their students that here are the qualities of not only a superior person but here are the componets of a CANADIAN person ..Thanks for repesenting our country on the largest scale ..and once again CONGRADULATIONS....as i sit here to write this , your actions make me proud of my country!!!!!!ROB VISCONTAS RR#6 AYLMER, ONTARIO CANADA N5H2R5

Comments: Hi Sharon, Monique Giroux here, Ottawa friend. Hope you are doing well and that you are maintaining perspective and focus for the final push. I'm sorry I missed your party in Kingston (the first time in a long time I didn't go down), but I was doing some post Ironman R&R. Actually, I was trying to get a relay team together (me being the swimmer), but when I found out you were doing the same, I escaped the potential embarrassment... The main purpose of my email is just to wish you success in Sydney. You have done so much in the last few years in preparation for this event and I sincerely hope that you achieve personal excellence. Although on a completely different level, I have done the same preparation (in my world) for my first Ironman this summer and when I crossed the finnish line, no, I was not first, not even close, but the thrill of personal victory was amazing. You are an incredible role model for so many people, and in particular, young women who are thinking of taking up the sport. You have incredible grace on the sports field and regardless of your placing in Sydney, the world will respect you for your class. Sharon, I am supporting you with great anticipation and wish that your Olympic experience be a most memorable one for you. Best wishes, Monique

You CAN DO IT! Don't let the hype of the situation change a focus that has clearly worked well for you in the past. Remember why you got into tri's in the first place. Remember your passion for the process. Your desire and ability to dig deep - to push the envelop. If you do this, I have no doubt that the outcome will speak for itself! Go get'em Sharon! You have already made us all proud!!! This is just icing on the cake! Words are not enough to convey my thoughts of best wishes. All who know you and many who will come to know you through this experience from Canada, will be behind you. I can't fully imagine what it will be like to fulfill this dream.... But I do know that every kid growing up has had it. Wow, Good luck Debb

Comments: Hi Sharon, Remember us? We used to swim together with the Petawawa Masterfins. Hans always said you must be using a special kind of energizer batteries... The other day I came across the book: Who's Who in Canadian Sports. Thought I look up your name (I had seen you on the late Ottawa news a couple of years ago) and found out that you qualified for the Olympic Team in Sidney. Your dream came true! I am so happy for you and will certainly root for you in front of my TV screen. Good luck! Barbara

Comments: Hi Sharon, I was a year ahead of you at RMC, in 7 Squadron. I saw you on the cover of the ex-Cadet magazine and then my youngest son (age one) was flipping through the TV channels yesterday and suddenly, there you were! It was very neat seeing someone I recognized front and centre on the TV. Up to this point I've only known hockey players and they are MUCH harder to recognize on the small screen! Anyhow, congratulations on your placing in Toronto and good luck at the Olympics!! KAREN

Comments: I was on my way to Ontario Place with my husband and daughter totally oblivious to the fact a World Cup tri was on in my home town. Due to a wrong turn we were in the middle of a traffic jam with a helicopter flying over head. I looked out my window and I saw you flying by. I told John I had to get out of the car to see this race. I spent the next 1/2 hour cheering the women on the run. It was so inspiring for me to see such excellence in athletics. I was so happy my daughter could see such strong women participating in an amazing sport. I am doing Ironman USA and she thinks Mommy is always 'exercising'. It is so much more than that. It will be awhile before she understands (she's 2) but seeing you and the others is a great start. No matter what happens at the Olympics you make me very proud to be a Canadian, a triathlete, and a woman. In no particular order. Cheers!

Comments: Give me a beer! Wow Sharon, my congrats to you on all your accomplishments! It's hard to believe I actually know someone going to the olympics. The first sentence should give it away... Got into RMC in 1989 and already your name was everywhere. Back then, everyone in the 91/92 triathlon team wanted to be like you... The one with the EDGE! I will look for you on the big screen during the Olympic this summer! Good luck and bring us the gold! Cheers

Comments: Sharon, Have heard about you all over since arriving in Perth. I am 31 and have spent only the last year seriously training (late comer to the sport). I left the US Army recently and have begun certification for personal training. I hope to hit the Aussie Ironman in Apr 2001 as my first Ironman. Seeing your history is really inspiring and I can't wait to see you compete in Sydney. I think I am more excited to see the first Olympic appearance of the Tri more than the Kona championships. All the best. Mike

Comments: I have coached university sports for over ten years. I personally competed at the national levels in wrestling, judo and weight lifting. In the sport of wrestling and was able to win one greco roman nationals and make the 1995 Pan Am Games team. I am also a personal strength coach and have trained many athletes from different teams and sports. They range from volleyball to professional sports car racers, but not enough individuals who like you are able to challenge themselves in multiple events and excell. Would you be willing to share ideas on training strategies to increase my knowledge to help others or guide me to some of the latest info? Sincerely Rick MacNeil
