6th start for a colorfull edition of the SILKEN FOOTSTEPS’ Race

Name : The Silken Footsteps

Type : Running race with 11 stages from 5 to 25 km, opened to all level

Concept : Sport in the morning, touristic discoveries in the afternoon

Dates : 2001 from 4th to 19th August ( 2 first weeks of August , each year since 6 years)

Parcours 2001 : on the ancient Silk Road : Shanghai, Xian (its beried army), Jiayujuan at the farest western part of the Great Wall, Dunhuang (in the famous Gobi Desert), Xiahe (small Tibet), Linxia, Lanzhou & Beijing with its " against-the-clock " on the Great Wall !

Saturday 4th : Flight Paris/shanghai
Sunday 5th : touristique visit of the old city
Monday 6th : prologue race in shanghai (6 to 8 km) + visit + flight to Xian
Tuesday 7th : race in Xian + visit of the city
Wednesday 8th : race (8 km) on the citywall + visit of the great archeologic site + flight to Dunhuang
Thursday 9th : 18 km race in the desert + visit of bouddhist caves
Friday 10th : 21 km race in sand dunes + visit
Saturday 11th : rest + overnignt train to Jiayuguan
Sunday 12th : 21 km race along the great wall in the gobi desert + visit+ train to Lanzhou
Monday 13th : bus to Linxia + 14 km race in the street of the city + visit of the mosq
Tuesday 14th : bus to Xiahe (tibet) + 17 km race in the moutains + visit of bouddhist temple
Wednesday 15th : 25 km in the moutains + free time in Xiahe + bus to Lanzhou
Thursday 16th : 18 km race in Lanzhou + flight to Beijing
Friday 17th : 3 km great wall race + visit Forbidden City
Saturday 18th : final ceremony + visit + flight back
Specifications: average temperature 30 to 40 °C, heights on the race : from –154 m to +3200 m

Runners or Walkers : 140 pers. (+450 chinese). Already 71 yet from 17 to 70 year-old-runners( !) including 34 women. 8 different nationalities (english, german, japanese, french, swiss, belgian, dutch, chinese)

Participants could either run or walk (same price but the trail is half shorter for walkers)

the price for the race (from Shnaghai to beijing) is 16560 FF insurance included +350F application form
the price include hotel, internal flights, trains and buses, all the food, all visit fees, spectacles at the hotel, water (on the race only), 4 Tshirt and the insurance.
