January 11, 2022, Washington, DC: Wegmans Food Markets is celebrating the opening of its first District of Columbia location by becoming the presenting sponsor of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Health and Fitness Expo held in conjunction with one of Washington, DC’s longest running traditions, the 49th running of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and 5K Run-Walk. The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Health and Fitness Expo Presented by Wegmans is scheduled for April 1-2, 2022. The two-day event attracts over 25,000 race entrants, their families and friends to exhibits, activities and merriment in conjunction with race packet pick-up at the stunning National Building Museum in downtown Washington, DC. The Health and Fitness Expo presented by Wegmans precedes the April 3 running of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and 5K Run-Walk, known as The Runner's Rite of Spring® in the Nation’s Capital.
Participants in the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Kids Run, which takes place on Saturday, April 2 on the grounds of the National Building Museum, will have an opportunity to taste healthy snacks provided by Wegmans at their event. Race day, Wegmans will provide post-race food for the 5K Run-Walk finishers as well.
Event Director Phil Stewart said, “Spring and the Credit Union Cherry Blossom are all about starting anew, so we are pleased to have this opportunity to celebrate and welcome Wegmans’ arrival into the city. I know our Kids Run and 5K race participants, many of whom are beginners, will enjoy being replenished and nourished by Wegmans after celebrating their achievements.”

The lottery for the always sold-out event opened on January 3, 2022 and extends through January 16. Complete entry details can be found here. The event is part of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the nation’s greatest springtime celebration taking place March 20 through April 17. The Credit Union Cherry Blossom will also provide a Virtual Ten Mile and 5K Run-Walk throughout the dates of the Festival.

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile, organized by Cherry Blossom, Inc., a 501c(3) chapter of the Road Runners Club of America, is known as “The Runner’s Rite of Spring®” in the Nation’s Capital. The staging area for the event is on the Washington Monument Grounds, and the course passes in sight of all of the major Washington, DC Memorials. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a consortium of 170 premier children’s hospitals across North America. About one-third of the funds raised support Washington, DC’s own Children’s National (“Children’s Hospital”). The event also funds the Road Runners Club of America’s “Roads Scholar” program, designed to support up-and-coming U.S. distance running talent.

The event is a proud member of the PRRO Circuit (PRRO.org), a series of major non-marathon prize money road races in Washington, DC; Spokane, WA; and Utica, NY.
