Athletics: Sponsors return to Chevron Houston Marathon Race Weekend

DICK's Sporting Goods Signs with HMC; 2016 We Are Houston Program Announced

HOUSTON (January 6, 2016) - The Houston Marathon Committee announced on Wednesday the return of sponsors Chevron, Aramco, ABB, Memorial Hermann, H-E-B and Bank of Texas to the January 15-17, 2016 Chevron Houston Marathon Race Weekend.

Chevron is celebrating their 11th year as the title sponsor of the Chevron Houston Marathon, while Aramco returns for the 12th year as sponsor of the Aramco Houston Half Marathon. Bank of Texas and H-E-B return for their 15th and 16th years, respectively, while ABB and Memorial Hermann mark their eighth and tenth years, respectively, with the Houston Marathon.

"On behalf of the Houston Marathon Committee, we thank all sponsors and the We Are Houston partners for their commitment to our annual event" said Steven Karpas, HMC's Managing Director, Business Development & Marketing. "Through their support, the Chevron Houston Marathon race weekend of events will produce over $50 million of economic impact and raise over $2.5 million for charity, while showcasing the City of Houston to an international audience."

"2016 will mark the eleventh year that Houston's largest single-day sporting event will carry our name," said Joni Baird, Chevron Houston Public Affairs Manager. "It's an important and inspirational event that raises money for many great causes, and we are proud to continue our sponsorship of the Chevron Houston Marathon."

New to the Houston Marathon Committee's sponsorship base, DICK's Sporting Goods will host the Runner's Lounge at the 2016 Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Sports Medicine Institute EXPO. In addition, DICK's Sporting Goods will host a pre-race Stretching Zone in the George R. Brown Convention Center on Sunday, January 17th and a post-race Stretching Zone at the We Are Houston RunFest on Discovery Green following the ABB 5K on Saturday, January 16th and the Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon on Sunday, January 17th.

Also announced were the 15 corporations who will participate in the fifth edition of the We Are Houston program. The 2016 We Are Houston corporations include Chevron, Aramco, ABB, Bank of Texas, Boxer Properties, Halliburton, Harris County Houston Sports Authority, H-E-B, Houstonfirst, King & Spalding, Memorial Hermann, Palletized Trucking, Precision Drilling, Silver Eagle Distributors and Waste Management.
